About the Book
This book contains contributions of experts from various organizations, viz., DST,
IISc, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, CSMCRI, ICAR, SIAES, NEERI, NIH, CPCB, NGRI, and KTH
Sweden and is presented in four sections of this book. Summary recommendations
in Section 4 are based on the recommendations of expert papers and
deliberations of the pre-Workshop and Workshop meetings. The chapters provide
an in-depth treatment of topical subjects on both water quality and quantity,
namely: source and control of geogenic and anthropogenic contamination
in groundwater and surface water resources, desalination technologies, climate
and water balance, watershed and groundwater management and
rainwater harvesting, to name a few.
Readership: The book will serve as a curriculum material for postgraduate students in environmental scienceand
engineering. It would also be a useful reference for researchers, academics and practicing engineers dealing with the
problems of surface and groundwater management. Besides, appealing to the general reader interested in sustainable
and quality water, the book would also serve as a source document to agencies supporting research in this field.
